The team at Watts Up Solar installed our system a month before this review and we are thrilled with the results. The installation occurred across a busy summer season with a heat wave and a hurricane interceding but the 30 solar panels which had just been installed 3 weeks earlier were unaffected. Can't say the same about some of our trees! Our home is a 24 year old R-2000 all electric property which was already twice as efficient as an all electric (non R2000 home of the same square footage) located nearby. We started looking 5 years ago to reduce our 25,000 annual KWh footprint and installed heat pumps that paid for themselves in that period, reducing the footprint to 15,000 Kwh. Now with only one month the solar production is indicating we will further reduce our footprint to zero in the first year. From a value perspective the solar system is giving us instant ROI as we are just redirecting our monthly electricity expense to pay for the system. Whether it's going green or saving money it's clear solar panels are a major part of the solution and it no longer means that going green means 'more expensive', with the right solution as provided by Watts Up Solar. They not only provided us with proof that it would work for us, but handled all of the paperwork, installation and inspections. A complete turn key system implemented at a competitive system price. Who does that anymore? Great company and exceptional installation.

Our house proved to be challenging because of the large maples to the south of our house (which I am reluctant to cut down because of the great summer shade in our back yard). Tom and Watts up were the only company we obtained estimates from who suggested putting panels on our large shed, in addition to putting panels high on the roof of our house. This allowed for a larger system - although still small - and one that hopefully will overcome many of the shade challenges that we face. Their website is fantastic as well and allows people to learn more about the panels and do their own estimates. Thanks Mike and Tom for making this happen for us!

This company was a pleasure to deal with. My 11 year old 30 panel solar system needed a replacement micro inverter which Enphase sent me under warranty. My initial contact was by email with a prompt response and within a week the part was installed in about 15 minutes. Jamie Rendle ( the Wattsup Solar owner ) activated the new inverter remotely minutes after it was installed and emailed me confirmation that it was working properly. So more than happy to give him and his crew a 5 star rating.

Dear Watts Up Solar Team, It is not often these days that expectations are met, let alone exceeded, but that has been our experience with your company. My wife and I began our solar journey in August, and after contacting multiple suppliers, we were disappointed by the lack of personal engagement. Every other company attempted to lock down our business with a proposal without ever visiting our property. Watts Up Solar was the only company that took a different approach. James, one of the owners, visited us personally to assess our needs and used a drone to identify any potential obstacles to performance. He addressed all of our concerns regarding our complex setup, which involved backhauling power from our garage to our house. Despite the added complexity, James assured us it would work, and he was right. A week after moving forward, we met our Project Manager, Stewart. Stewart installed, racked, and wired our entire system on his own with meticulous attention to detail. His work was so professional that the sign-off from Nova Scotia Power took only minutes to complete. Our system has been running since mid-September. When we encountered one minor issue, it was addressed and resolved promptly over a weekend. This has been an outstanding experience from start to finish. Five stars!

We were up and running with grid-tied solar in June of this year, and so far we have no complaints. Watts Up provided us with a no-nonsense presentation with their best price upfront, which we truly appreciated, as we dealt with multiple pricings and aggressive salesmanship with other companies. Their numbers were detailed in their presentation, and they were very helpful directing us to provincial grants and federal loan opportunities. We also liked that this was a smaller, family-run operation. We felt like an individual client, rather than just a number. James answered all of our questions, including the ones that came after installation and full payment. That in itself creates a strong level of confidence in the company. He indicated that they continue to monitor the results, and can help us out if any troubles should occur. It's a bit difficult to write this review because it's almost impossible to illustrate just how good this company is. My interest in solar began with a friend/employee of mine mentioning this particular company to me probably 5 years ago. I found the system performance data on their website interesting enough to visit the site time and time again over the years. They used to have a design it yourself portion of the site which allowed you to input data for your site and try different panels etc. I suspect they took that part of it down as one needed to be fairly knowledgeable about what they were doing to input the variables correctly. Now they send you out a personalized proposal including system equipment and a pic of the panels superimposed onto a sat pic of your property, which probably works better for most customers. I began exploring getting solar more earnestly about a year and a half ago, and Watts Up were the only company I received proposals from (I was looking at doing solar on 3 different properties I own). I had a couple of convo's with the company owner (Michael), who was very happy to lend me his time and knowledge as well as his son James. Even though they had all of my contact info, I received no phone calls or emails hounding me to do anything after they had my info, which was much appreciated. I had tried calling Polaron and they immediately began hounding me with telemarketer like agents to the extent that I never ever called them back. I tried calling Sunkissed (because they were more local to us) and received no reply. Anyways, Watts Up answered every question I ever had and left me to making the decision on my own (which was what I desired), up until it was important that they did contact me. James called me out of the blue one afternoon with the information that a very important rebate program which was available for my commercial project was about to end in 48 hours or so. He was making an effort to contact everyone who was recently looking for commercial installs from them to ensure we didn't miss out. In my case, this phone call was worth almost $10,000 as we were looking to do a larger install. I also had it on my list to get going on the commercial project at that same point, so his timing was impeccable. The sales model at Watts Up gelled very well with me as it's exactly the same way I run my own business. I will lend every bit of my 25 years of knowledge in my industry to a customer, quote them, and never "bother" them again unless something important comes up which I feel the customer needs to know. In looking around at the reviews of other Solar companies out there, I see how getting solar can go so very wrong for folks who aren't lucky enough to land on Watt's Up doorstep. I've actually seen google review replies in which the owner of an established competitor appeared to paint a picture of someone having to sign multiple financing deals and release all the money to them before they ever set foot on the customers property as being "normal". This is NOT normal. This is what occurs in most industries when you're dealing with someone who isn't established enough to do your job and/or is about 5 minutes from disappearing/bankruptcy. I experienced none of this with Watts Up. Lastly, the actual install. Their lead installer Stewart was really good at his job and capable of carrying on an intelligent conversation about almost anything. The electrical work was second to none (and I know a fair bit about electrical) and very "clean" work. I couldn't have asked for better. As I said at the start, where do I start and end about this company. My system has been installed for 4 months now and I still love looking at my own data on the ap for my system and comparing it to other systems on the Watts Up website. All I can say is keep up the phenomenal work!

We had our solar panel system installed this summer by Watts Up Solar Ltd and were extremely pleased. From the quote to the friendly installers and the assistance with applications we found the process very smooth and professional. We had been approached by others that promised the moon and did not seem to have a real grasp of what was realistic. Tom Rendle Director of Watts Up was very forthright and stated what we might realistically expect and why. We have had no problems after the fact and am enjoying the system .We also have confidence in Watts UP if we have a question. We have referred them to friends who are also having a good experience. Honest and professional seem to be their way of doing things.

WattsUp Solar have been absolutely superb throughout the entire process. From the very first contact right through to the final inspection, everything was handled smoothly and professionally. James, my main point of contact, was very informative, courteous, and highly professional at every stage. The whole installation, from the first fix of the racking to the final inspection, was completed within just four weeks—a testament to their efficiency and organisation. The installation itself is top-notch. Special mention to Mark, the electrician, who suggested routing the cabling through the loft. It meant a bit of extra work for them, but the end result is fantastic—no visible exterior cabling at all, giving a very clean finish. I honestly cannot recommend WattsUp Solar highly enough. First-class service, excellent workmanship, and a flawless experience from start to finish. 10 out of 10!

Update: We are happy solar owners awaiting final NSPI inspection. The quotes were competitive but we chose Watts Up Solar. We had a bad experience with a Huawei string inverter and lost 8 months of production over a couple of complete shutdowns. The newer string inverters are improved but the sales line of "if one microinverter goes down the rest stay up" stuck in the mind. And the IQ controller for battery add on allows sun to power the home during outages, of course depending on the "production" in the period. We have two Bluetti battery generators that would benefit from any sun hours and could add batteries later. But budget was tight so next round for "back up". Enphase with 9.2 KW (20 x 460w Heliene panels) fit our roof. Had hoped for 10.1 kw, but because of other efficiency upgrades and more to come our demand was lower then expected so it challenges me to "tighten up". It should be very close! Watts Up came all the way to Cape Breton so scheduling was understandably a tad chaotic and winter stayed late but seems a common trend as the industry is launching incredibly fast. The install was incredibly fast and no glitches. The system turned "on" first attempt. 2 days. The installer(s) were very knowledgeable and sales were not "pushy" and worked with us if issues popped up and to chat design and tech stuff which I enjoy with my background of Electronic Engineering Technology. Was the right pick for us in chosing Watts Up and in testing everything looks like a big thumbs up. Once budget allows we'll be returning for at least the controller. The CGH loan is what our average monthy bill would be at 0% for 10 years. Solar is incredible investment and monthly billing security. For just under $200/month it covers heat, power and hotwater and in 10 years will be free for the 15 years left on warranty. Only constructive critic, no points deducted...text on route if unplanned. As mentioned the industry is under some pressures as it grows and solar installers are super loaded in this season especially. And being 6 hrs away!

The initial home visit from James answered all of the questions I had regarding the process for installing a solar project on my roof. James was thorough in his assessment of my needs, especially as the project had to complement my existing whole home standby generator. The symmetry in the system design was very much to my liking, and the stages of the installation were conducted courteously and with attention to detail by the installers and Brian the electrician. The Watts Up team also handled all the paperwork and liaison with Nova Scotia Power very well. The first year of operation has been a joy, with no issues. It was truly a pleasure to have Watts Up complete the solar installation on my property, and I would heartily recommend them for your solar project.

We had a big challenge with the configuration of our system due to the height of the structure. Mike came well prepared for the challenge. Fantastic effort and fantastic results. While researching solar PV systems I had received several quotes from five solar providers, after asking several questions and numerous emails back and forth I was confident to go with Mike and his team at Watts Up Solar. We began our solar journey looking into quotes in fall of 2021. We chose Watts Up because of: a) Multi inverter system b) Competitive price c) Responsive to enquiries, questions etc (we had no previous knowledge of Solar systems) d) Online reviews. There was typical back and forth by email and phone re # panels, best system, estimated payback time etc during the fall and at the end of October, decided to use Watts Up and request the instal in Spring 2022. The paperwork was all handled by Watts Up for contract, NSP Interconnection and Efficiency NS rebate application and was completed in November 2021. The news of Efficiency NS lowering the rebate in December of 2021 (effective January 2022), sent us back to Watts Up to see if we still qualified for $6K rebate and to confirm that the Province had our paperwork in time, which they promptly confirmed for us. The install was completed including inspections from NS Power early June 2022 and we’re completely satisfied with the whole install. The two chaps who came to install the racking were professional, courteous, even began late on a Friday afternoon for an hour, and back on Monday to complete. Brian, their electrician is a CAN DO kind of guy. Our electrical metre is probably about 20 feet from our utility room, so Brian had to be creative in how to install the Solar connection panel in the utility room and feed the wiring out to the outside connection. He is indeed a valuable member of the team. NSP inspections went well, all was completed in a timely manner. Mike came to the house after the install to explain the bill (exactly as quoted), and how the rebate timing works and to discuss the app. Tom is extremely quick with responses to emails with any concerns. In Spring, when I reached out to ask when we were scheduled to start, he responded the same day, and gave me an overview of the timing of the project. The project went as he indicated and we are delighted to have chosen Watts Up Solar. They are a fabulous family run business in Nova Scotia and we are happy to support our local businesses.

I had an excellent experience dealing with Wattsup solar. They were very knowledge both on the information before quote, and on the installation process itself. Wattsup Solar are also very familiar with the Halifax Solar City program and will guide you through it with ease. not only was their pricing very competitive, but they will happy explain the entire process to you before any kind of commitment (i know we emailed back and forth for months before i pulled the pin). When their crew came to site to install, they knocked on the door to let me know they were there, and came to tell me when they were done and what the next step would be. When they left my house they ensured everything was cleaned up and i was satisfied. Overall they were brilliant, i give them 7 stars out of 5!

They were a complete turnkey service with absolutely no issues. They took the time to explain all the steps involved in the process. We recently changed our internet provider and i had some issues getting the solar system to communicate with the new provider. I phoned Tom and he was at my house within the hour and got us back on line. NOW THAT IS SERVICE!! I strongly recommend them if you are looking to get a solar system installed.

If this company is looking for a salesperson, its me! After many hours of research, phone calls and competitive quotes. It was one thing that Jamie Rendle said that closed the deal, "we won't sell you a system that won't perform the way it needs to in order to justify the cost. Behind those trees you'll only get 60% efficiency. We won't do it. Its unethical." After all the multiple contacts by sales outfits that are currently getting in on the trend of solar power generation, who sell you things you don't need, and then offer mid-quality products because they bought a shipment of them and need to unload them, Watts Up is by far a quality company. They had newer and better product come in than they had quoted and because it was better we needed fewer panels so they dropped the price. And...have I mentioned the installation teams yet? The crew who put up the racking, the crew who put on the panels and the fabulous electrician Mark who wrapped it all up in a nice bow were fabulous to work with. Even when we messed up the install, they fixed our mess. You won't find a better quality company. And they are based right here in the Annapolis Valley. Who knew we had such a great team right here. The initial consultation was completed on site and documents estimates were supplied in writing. All applications/ permits etc were completed by the company for utility review. Any questions we had were addressed immediately. Once on site the workers were polite, organized and very neat. All materials and garbage secured and hauled away. Installation was professional and every effort was made to keep service wires hidden. Although you may find cheaper panels, make sure you are comparing the same quality of units as they are not all the same. Our system runs seamless and you don't even know it is there. Challenges *Confirm with you insurance company that they will insure your home after the installation. * Make sure all your application for inspections are complete can take a few months for utility to inspect. *Confirm your meter is changed by the authority. Again very solid company with great results. I have no issues recommending the company for installation and service.

For anyone that is looking for a solar installation. Watt's Up Solar is the one to go to in my opinion. Mike Rendle and his team are on the ball. He looked after all the permits and dealing with the mafia better known as NS Power. The system has performed great. Only thing is I wish I had got more panels installed. We had an issue with one panel and contacted Watt's Up for a repair. Turned out one of the inverters had failed. Took a couple of weeks to get it changed out but that panel is producing a slightly better amount of electricity now. But all in all a good experience. Other solar companies wanted to charge to do the paper work for solar city or refused to. But Mike handled it all. I plan on building off grid next year if possible and will be considering them for the install. I highly recommend them.

They attempted remotely to fix the problem several different ways, and then decided to replace the gateway. That was Monday, they shipped it to WattsUp from Ohio it was installed and working today, Friday! Outstanding company great products and even better service. Watts Up is a great solar company! I have been so happy with my results! They did most of the start up paper work, making the purchase relatively easy. And I have been getting 70% of my yearly electricity from my panels for the last 4 years as they predicted. My panels were installed early enough that they didn't put up critter guards in the initial installation (they always do, now), and the pigeons came and nested under the panels. But Watts Up came, removed the panels, cleaned the roof, and replaced the panels with critter guard. Instantly I had fewer pigeons. They are still wondering what happened, but mostly gone! It was narrowed down to a panel or an inverter. Watts up Solar started looking into the issue the same day I brought it to their attention. It took less than 1 week to narrow down the component (panel or inverter. It turned out to be the inverter), file a warranty claim, replace the component, to bring my system back to full working out. This made me feel like I made the right choice with my system installer, Watts Up, knowing warranty would be honored. The Enphase system monitor is super accurate, comparing it to NS powers meter reading, they differ less than 100 kw per year.

All questions were answered (and I had a lot) with respect and good logical answers. The Rendle's were above par through the entire process and thereafter when I had questions relating to the performance and operation of the system installed. The system they installed is reliable and we had no issue since its install in March 2021. I would do it all over again with WattsUp Solar.

We have had several small outages from the grid since the install and wouldn't have notice if not for a message on my app. Sweeet. Everyone was extremely friendly and a pleasure to work with. When I started seeing ads for solar panels popping up years ago I started to do some research. I quickly found out that there were so many companies in NS to choose from. I called around to a few which were helpful but thankfully I called Watts Up Solar and I wished they were my first call. They know their stuff!!! They answered every question without hesitating and walked me through every step with ease. When they took care of all of the paperwork to get the NS rebate, it was so comforting as I was expecting a lot of headaches with being on hold and complicated government forms. What a time saver! They treat you like family and really put the time and effort in to make you confident you made the right choice hiring them. 12.15Kw DC 27 BS-120M Panels and IQ8A Inverters 13.5 kWh batteries Short statement: Highly recommended and encourage anybody in Annapolis valley to look at Tom and his team when considering Solar. The entire team was a pleasure to work with. Long statement: Tom was accessible, sometimes at short notice, and responsive to questions and concerns. We decided to go with Watts Up Solar after acquiring four proposals, and theirs was the most responsive to our needs and was on par for cost. We made the strategic decision to source our system from none-Asian markets to reduce the possibility of international chaos interfering with our system. So panels are German and controls and batteries are American. Our system is a little different than the standard system as we have 13.5 kWh of battery storage. This means that in the event of a power failure we have instantaneous switching. The batteries also provide power after the sun sets. Batteries can be set to stop supplying at a preferred percentage, or fully charged in anticipation of a storm.

I had several quotes from competitors ultimately choosing to go with Watts Up solar based on their excellent knowledge, communication, honesty and high quality equipment. My expectations were not only met but exceeded when working with them. These guys are great at what they do and above all great to work with. A Nova Scotia family business that covers everything from start to finish and beyond. I would highly recommend them and their fantastic trades. If you are on the fence about solar it's absolutely worth it, not just financially either.

We recently had our Solar install completed by Watts Up Solar and are very happy with the overall experience. Jamie was quick to respond to numerous questions easily on and throughout the process and the installers were very friendly and professional. We had one small issue early in the install, which was correctly promptly by the installers, once brought to his attention and our electrician Marc was superb and allowed us to find a wire routing option that hid most of the wire and worked for both parties. We would have liked to have more panels but our hip roof would not allow any more good placements and Jamie was very ethical not to oversell us, stating that he knew that any locations would not provide good value. I should add that they took care of everything including permits, and helped us through the process of what we needed to do like booking home energy assessments, which really made it painless.
